Autumn day trip.

Sometimes, living in the country offers surprises.
The other morning
(well actually a week or so ago, but I am getting a little behind)
I walked past the kitchen window
I say something not right out of the corner of my eye.
I stepped back and looked again,
sure enough, something was not right.
The big old oak behind the house lost a limb.
You can see it here in front of the elm.
It is as big as some trees.
Here you can see where it broke off.
The limb is much to big for us to move.
We will have to have our "tree guy" out.
Now we return to our regularly scheduled blog post.
All Aboard!
The Great Smokey Mountain Railway.
Part one of our day trip to the mountains.
Any tour of the South should include a bit of Kudzu.

Fontana Lake as seen from the train.
Our train stopped at the Nantahala Outdoor Center.
(Remember our rafting trip last year?)
 Duck.

My Traveling Companion.

Going round the bend....

Doesn't this place just inspire stories?
Seen from the window as the train went by.
I will close with that for now.
Hope you enjoyed the ride.
Next Stop,
Harvest goodies and a walk in the mountains.
Cheers,
Kat

  4. I always think it's sad when big old trees break. It took them a lot of years to grow those branches.

That little house does look like it has some stories to tell!

Hope you are having a happy weekend Kat!

  5. Great photo's. That looks like a great train journey, especially at this time of the year. The colour of the trees and vegetation is a bit ahead of where we are just now but this week's colder weather seems to have accelerated the change here too...

  8. That last picture is fantastic! Stories indeed. I'm catching up with Fall as I have had a super busy October. Hoping to have time for cider and pumpkin carving before Halloween! This train ride looks like a perfect autumn adventure.

  9. I had really hoped to take a scenic train ride this fall but it just seemed like my most anticipated season really didn't quite happen this year. I'm still rather miffed at Mother Nature about the whole thing!

Looks like you and your traveling companion had a wonderful time and you're right, that last picture definitely inspires stories.
