Ten things I will miss when Summer is gone.

Summer will linger a bit longer here in the South,

but autumn is definitely on her way.

We had tea on the balcony yesterday morning, and there was just a tiny bit of a "nip" in the air.

 

So, I am taking a few minutes to appreciate some of my favorite things about the season.

 

1. Wild Grapes.

2. Bright flowers.

3. Spontaneous cooling off in the sink.

4. Mushrooms.

5. Tiny visitors.

6. Tea on the balcony with my Sweet Husband.

7. Home made Ice Cream.

8. Summer sunsets.

9. Leaving the door open in the evenings and listening to the night.

10. More lovely flowers, these smell great.

Just a short post

Southern early morning entertainment.

Early morning, springtime in the Carolinas.

These bloom across from my driveway. 

Our bees are busy once again.

We have a hive of wild bees that share our home.

They have lived here longer than we have (we did evict the mice who were in residence before us, they are not welcome). The bees are nondestructive and as long as you don't swat at them, they will leave you alone. I used to be afraid of bees and my older sisters and brothers probably think I am nuts, but I really don't mind these guys. Wild bees have been having a rough time so we were a little worried when ours seemed to disappear after they swarmed last fall. As you can see, they are back with lots of activity.

We had tea out here this morning and listened to the cicadas and the birds.

The cicadas are quite friendly. One perched on my Sweet Husbands finger for awhile then complained loudly when he was removed. I videoed a repeat performance for you. Don't forget to turn on the sound.

Summer Beauty.

August is winding down and today is a little cooler.

September has nearly arrived and here at Kat's Corner we are ready for it.

Summer, at least here in the south, will hang on for quite a bit longer but in the Rocky Mountains, where I grew up, September is the beginning of autumn. I keep thinking about it and remembering what it felt like to be a kid, half dreading, half longing for, the start of school.

Do you remember? Time for "one last" swim at the pool, or "one last" day of tubing in the irrigation ditch.

 Taking "one last" trip up to Pineview Dam or Lagoon, the local amusement park.

Well, this hopefully won't be our last trip to the mountains this year, but all the nostalgia is making me want to share my appreciation for this last stretch of summer.

The first five pictures are from our last trip up to Heintooga Round Bottom Road.

I love this last one, it shows why they are called the "Blue Ridge Mountains".

This little guy is much closer to home. The picture (taken by my Sweet Hubby) was taken in our yard. I framed it in black to show it off a bit more. Can you see the lizard?

This is my latest work in progress.

It is celebrating Summer too.

Ten things I like about Summer!

Summer here at Kat's Corner is hot, but this old antebellum was designed for appreciating hot summer days.  Summer won't be here much longer and I like sharing it with you so sit back and have a peak at ten of my summer pleasures.
