Transition Season

March is nearly over, and at least in our corner of the woods, spring is pretty much here.

Spring and Fall are my favorite seasons because you get the best of winter and summer without the extremes. It rained yesterday and the wind howled around the house. It was a very snuggly night. 

 My Sweet Husband knew the storm was coming so he brought this Iris in for me. It is the first of the season and the only one open so far. 

 As you can see, it is still chilly enough for a fire in the fireplace.

This is our library, the floors are Heart Pine, probably from trees growing on the property when the house was built. 

 The dogwood is open more than last week, but still taking it's time. 

These are kind of "pre-flowers" the tree still has blossoms coming.

My breakfast and a hot cup of tea just arrived, so I will stop for now. I have a spring morning to enjoy.

Winter and some interesting sightings.

 I took this a couple of nights ago. The snow drifted into little peaks like waves then the sun came up and froze the top layer. When I looked out the windows at sunset, it looked like we were surrounded with water. Pretty, but creepy at the same time. I love living out in the country, and I am not alone, but this photo looks lonely to me.

 As you can see, we have ways of dealing with winter. This photo makes me feel warm and happy.

Although it is very rare for this much cold and snow to hang around this long.

I worked Thursday and Friday, then yesterday we went into Augusta GA.

I did not take any pictures of the yard this morning, it is a muddy mess with patches of dirty snow scattered around. It is also quite icy in places. I know several people who have been injured from slips on the ice.

Now, the sightings.

 How is this for a great lineup? How often do you get to see a Corvette, an SSR, and a Camaro all in a row?

We also saw piles where snow had been plowed. Highly unusual in Augusta.

Then at the end of the day when we stopped for coffee after dinner, we saw this lovely character.

Now that brought back some memories.

The owner has been doing the restoration himself.

Looks like it is well loved.

 I am also quite tickled with these photos because they were taken after dark with just the street lamps in the parking lot. I love my Fuji camera!

On that note, I will get back to school work.

I have to agree with the sentiment shown on the vans nose.

with a lovely cup of tea

while I work on the homework.

I am thankful to be able to do that.

Life is good at Kat's Corner.

I am having a lovely morning today.

To start with, we are on day light savings time.

We got to set the clock back last night and sleep in an extra hour this morning.

The weather is lovely and sunny outside,

but just a bit chilly (OK a lot chilly).

This wonderful old house is quite comfortable.

My trees have not quite reached this stage yet, but at least some are starting to turn.

I thought I would include this one and see if it gives mine the idea.

 I have a lovely cup of PG tips tea.
(Thank goodness for the commissary and the Internet).
Nothing beats a warm cuppa on a chilly morning.

 Unless of course, you have a Sweet Husband who makes fresh Banana bread.
This was a particularly tasty example. It was breakfast this morning.
He makes it from scratch and it is one of my favorites.

 Here is my very generous portion.
I like the crusts best.
It tastes even better than it looks.

 We spent quite a bit of time and energy last week on this.

I love a nice tall wood pile!

It makes me feel more secure.

We are putting some of that hard work to good use this morning.

Our fist fire of the season is merrily crackling away.

Warm and cozy.

Back when this house was built (around 1830), fireplaces

were the only heating option. They do a great job of it too.

Speaking of warm and cozy.

Spontaneous likes to lay in the silliest positions.

She is very cuddly this time of year, just look at that big soft belly.

I have a paper to finish for school,

I better get to it.

You know what? I don't even mind having to do homework on a day like this one.

The other morning

The other day, we finally had a chilly morning. All was ready and so,

The first fire of the season was a lovely warm success! I had to work this weekend and it is too warm this morning, but the season has begun and there is plenty of wood in the pile.

Cozy

OK, I know, there really should be a limit to the number of autumn leaf pictures any one should be subject too. I just could not resist one more. :) I hope it looks as nice on your computer as it does on mine. Hubby and I were out for a walk the other evening. We left a little later than we meant to. By the time we got to the far end of the road, The sun was starting to set and the leaves were just glowing. This particular bunch is right next to a lovely little stream. After I took this photo, I just stood there in wonder for a few minutes. The leaves were magical, birds were

singing, I could just hear the stream merrily going by. The woods smelled fresh and clean. That was one of those moments that keeps me whole. When I find them, I try to take time to appreciate them, hold them close. When I am stressed, that moment will be waiting for me, carefully stashed away.

The next morning, we woke up to this wet and rainy view. I did not mind in the least. Isn't it pretty? We need the rain, and, what a lovely excuse for a lazy, cozy day off. I had homework to do of course, but no where I needed to be.

It was chilly in the house to start with so my sweet Hubby lit a fire in the fireplace. Our second

fire of the season. All that work a few months ago is certainly paying off.

I love to be cozy! I do not like to be too cold, but in order to truly appreciate cozy, you need a little chill in the air. This is what we call "SNUGGLE SEASON". I fall asleep best tucked up close to my Hubby with the blankets pulled close around my ears. In the morning, the day just starts better if I can hit the snooze button a few more times and snuggle back in under the blankets.

This fireplace is in our library. When we bought this lovely old house the chimneys were threatening to fall in and none of the fireplaces were usable. Most were boarded up. We had the chimneys rebuilt and four fireplaces restored. My Hubby found the bricks in the arch on the premises and had them incorporated into the design. This is a nice cozy fire and makes for a nice cozy room. In another corner of the same room, my grandkitty Spontaneous is demonstrating her version of cozy. She is curled up on a tuffet. What could be

cozier than that?

Once the fire was going well, we proceeded to spend most of a lovely rainy day in this cozy room. A long and scrumptious breakfast, (Guacamole omelets) and plenty of Nice British tea. One of the most delicious things about this lovely day was the fact that the season is just beginning.
