Salem Ma.

We visited Salem and Boston on the same trip,

I saved this post till it got closer to Halloween.

Can you see why?

 This shop is called "Salem's 13 ghosts".

This one is "New England Magic".

Are you seeing a theme here?

 Salem is quite proud of it's historical connection to witches,

although, I think they would prefer live ones now.

 I am quite pleased with this photo,

Love the way the color in the reflection hints at autumn leaves to come.

This statue is in honor of Roger Conant.

He was the first settler in Salem.

He lived here by himself for many years.

Very atmospheric statue.

Salem also has a long connection with ships and sailing.

This collection of ships figure heads is on display at the Peabody and Essex Museum.

I like the fine example down in front the best, does he look familiar?

Good thing he has such a great sense of fun.

 This is a "moon bed" brought over from China,

Wouldn't you love to wake up in that?

 Of course, I managed to find some cats!

This one kind of reminds me of Spontaneous, (OK, only a little).

It is an old Chinese incense burner.

 A pair of lovely old tigers,

also residing in the Peabody and Essex.

This is the back of the Yin Yu Tang house.

It housed several generations of the same family,

then it was disassembled, and brought from a rural village in southeastern china to Salem.

It was reassembled as part of the Peabody and Essex.

No photography allowed inside so you will have to

I saw a Zen Cat calender, and I laughed,

all cats are Zen Masters.

This is THE House of Seven Gables.

It belonged to Nathaniel Hawthorne's cousin and inspired the novel that is named for it.

It even has a hidden stair case.

Local excitement, our new library!

At last, it is open!

Greenwood has a brand new library.

Our new library opened up early this month in a brand new building.

Yes, it is big!

That is my Sweet Husband standing outside the main entrance.

Step inside, to the right, see the information desk?

Back farther and to the left, the main desk.

Come on, you know you want to go up those stairs.

The building was built to be as environmentally friendly as possible.

They even have reserved parking spaces for alternative fuel vehicles and carpools.

To the top, lots of light.
They have a new teen center with glass on two sides.
It is meant to provide a place where teens can be comfortable.
Adults are not supposed to hang out,
The only problem is, all the books by Charles DeLint and Dyanna Wynn Jones are in there!
We will have to work something out, the librarians are great.

What more could you ask for?

The periodical section is in a round tower with windows almost all the way around.

I think this will be one of my Sweet Husbands favorite places.

Big comfy tables and chairs and Wi Fi!

That means I can do homework from there if I need to.

(Yes, I am back in school, I am working on a Masters in Nursing Education).

OK, so maybe we don't have murals by Sargent or marble lions,

we do have some of the best librarians I have ever dealt with.

Did I mention, lots of books, and lots of room for more books?

I am happy.

Distractions....

Did you ever have one of those mornings,

where you have something that really needs to be done,

and you keep getting distracted?

Spontaneous says there is a patch of sunshine in the computer chair, she thinks that makes it hers.

How can I disturb anything so cute?

 Then, there are these buttons I have been meaning to do something with,

they would make great embellishments for digital scrap booking,

Oh yeah, I need to decide what I am going to embroider on that other project...

I can do that later.

I really need to get to work on that paper.

Then, My Sweet Husband, is making cookies,

he says he needs someone to help him eat them.

 OK, I finally got to the computer (Spontaneous decided to go play somewhere else).

Oh, but wait, I need to run some stuff down to the mailbox,

I still haven't done the blog post about Swan Boats and Ducks...

It sure is a nice day for a walk....

all right already, I will get to work. I have my research done, it is just a matter of writing now.

(I actually like the writing part)

That is it, I really am motivated now......

Although, I still need to work a bit on my Christmas Card idea. For some reason or other,

the family has voted against this version.

Oh well...
