A visit to Augusta, PAX and Shaken not stirred.

I spent some time with friends in Augusta GA last week.
What a week it turned out to be.

 Before the Storm
My Sweet Husband took all the photos from our place this week.
I was in Augusta GA.
This was an early morning shot before Winter Storm Pax arrived.

It Begins
If you look closely at this picture of our old barn, you can see the snow falling.

Snowfall in the Woods
If you have visited my blog before, you probably know our home is in the Sumter National Forest.
These trees are on the edge of our property.

Meanwhile, In Augusta we were getting ready.

Josephine  in Pink
Joe started out in pink. Then, possibly in honor of the Olympics,

She changed into a ski sweater.

Molly in Pink
Molly is a silly girl. I said Smile Pretty.

Pogo
Pogo was busy being petted.

Riley
Riley is another silly girl.
Smile Pretty

Toby
Toby is the only boy in the house. He is tiny and very cuddly.

AKA Luigi
When we woke up Wednesday morning, the roads were ice.
I nearly fell on the way to my pickup, then the doors were frozen shut (not the locks, the actual doors) I called my boss and stayed put.
We played video games on the Wii, Mario Party is one of my favorites I also like Mario Cart.
The same friend who crocheted Joe's pink dress, had a bit too much time on her hands, that is how Toby ended up impersonating Luigi.

Heaven Lei
As you can see, she is not wearing a jacket.
Maybe because her own black coat is so lovely.
She likes to play in the snow (doggie's door and very high fence).
Thursday morning, when I was the only one up, she came in from outside soaking wet. Then made a beeline for my nice warm lap.
Good thing she is so darn cute.

Norma Jean
Norma Jean lives there as well. She is a very large and very silly black puppy. She did not wear a jacket either and I did not manage to get her to hold still long enough to take her picture.

Bird Bath and Ice
See how thick the ice is on the branches. At times it sounded like cannons going off, trees and branches snapping. Then the power went out.

Frames in the Garden
We do not know yet how much damage the weather did to their garden.
High Branches
Luckily, none of these came down.

Close Up of Ice on Branches

See how the trees are bent over?

Meanwhile back in the woods
I returned home Friday evening after dark. Most of the snow and ice was gone.
My Sweet Husband went out in the cold to get pictures for me while the storm was still going.

Camellia Buds in Ice
Some survived the cold, but we will not have many blossoms this year.
Daffodil Sprouts
I checked, they all appear to be fine now that the snow is gone.

Home
Friday evening when I was sitting safely at home eating dinner,
we heard a roar, then a rumble and the house started to shake.
An earthquake. According to the news, the epicenter was about 45 miles away.

Me, I feel lucky.
My family, friends, and home are all fine.
I have heat, power, hot water, good music playing and good food in front of me. My Sweet Husband just brought me a very full cup of very hot tea (my favorite kind), and I know that I am loved.
What a week!
Cheers
Kat

29 January 2012

Sunday Morning Luxury, we all deserve a treat.

I have homework to do this morning,
and a lovely breakfast to eat.
I feel quite indulged.
I would like to share one of my favorite indulgences with you.
Alistair, from Scotland, writes the most wonderful blog.
His posts might be anything from a rant about politics to the history of his Father's RAF Squadron.
He makes every subject enjoyable.
He really is an amazing writer.
This morning, his post is a short poem from Star Trek Next Generation,
You can see it Here .
It reminded me of his earlier posts on one of my favorite subjects,
so take a step back in time and read what he has to say about his favorite felines.
Enjoy, and let me know what you think.

Cheers,
Kat

Sneak Peak!

We just got home from a day trip to Atlanta!
Guess what we did while we were there?
Here is a sneak peak.

 We played peek-a-boo
 We met Whit.
We saw some sweet little faces.
(You know this little guy is pleading innocent).
 We watched belly rolls.
And we met Jon Ti Twilight.
(What is he thinking about?)
Beautiful!

I will post much more soon,
(I have 239 pictures so I have got to weed through them a little)
Cheers,
Kat
p.s. if you were at the cat show and any of theses kitties are yours,
send me an email and I will gladly email you copies of the photos.

Happy Halloween

Happy Halloween Everyone!
I just could not resist posting a few pictures.
It was a very chilly morning so we had the first fire of the season.
(We have been ready for awhile)
Can't have Halloween without our Witch.
 And a spooky black cat,
 A glowing jack-o-lantern,
What's this, a ghost in the yard?
Have a spooktacular evening!
Kat
p.s. the contest runs till Wednesday, scroll down to the previous post for the rules.

Carousel at Myrtle Beach, A New Obsession,

This is another one of those times where my obsession for photography really paid off.
My Sweet Hubby and I went down to Myrtle Beach. It was a lovely evening, so we decided to go for a walk after dinner. I as usual, had my camera with me.
This was our first visit to Myrtle Beach and we did not know anything about the area. We expected just a bunch of tourist shops on "Broadway at the Beach".
We found camels and dragons!
This is by far the most interesting carousel I have ever seen.
It was made by Herschell - Spillman back in 1912.
It even has cats! I have seen lions and tigers before,
here we have not just one, but two kitties.
According to the sign posted outside the carousels pavilion, the carousel has been at Myrtle Beach since 1950. (So yes, Zuzana, it is the same one). It has a giraffe.
A very well dressed goat.
These pictures were hard to get as the carousel was moving more often than not. Can you see the details?
I don't know if pigs fly, but I will never hear the saying again without thinking of this guy.
The stork. Ready for the next delivery.
My favorite, another cat of course. Do you see the long haired beauty on the side?
This carousel is certainly inspirational. I have so many ideas in my head. A series of prints for a child's room, or maybe a children's story to explain how they all came to be so peacefully together on the ride.
I spent nearly an hour in front of this thing and my Sweet and Patient Hubby just smiled.
I am a lucky girl!
Cheers,
Kat

More Cats of Rome

This was the first cat to greet us in Rome. This poster is at the airport. I am not sure what it is telling us, (anyone read Italian?) but I like the style.
This little Kitty met us just inside the Capitoline Museum. He seems as if he is ready to move.
This Regal fellow lives on one of the fountains at Quattro Fontane. There is a fountain on each corner of the intersection.
Look at all these cats. I especially like the little black and white who is looking right at us.
These can be found in the Al Sogna Toy Shop in Piazza Navona.
This is a wonderful toy store.
If you ask, they will take you upstairs to show you the posh collectors dolls. Way out of my price range but well worth the climb. My guide book compares this shop to Santa's Workshop fifty years ago. I want to go back already.
This is another resident of Piazza Navona. Who knew lions liked water so much? He adorns one of many Roman fountains by Bernini.
My Sweet hubby is grinning from behind an old Egyptian statue on the Vatican grounds.
Detail from a Sarcophagi in the Vatican collection. This guy is carved from marble yet the detail is like the finest of porcelain.
One thing that amazes me is that, as old as my house is, art like this has been sitting right where it is since before my house was even a dream. Some of these things are at least a thousand years old. This guy was carved without the aid of electricity.
No, this isn't an escapee from the last post. Jaguars are cats too. This is one of my Sweet Hubby's favorites.
A big cat in an ancient mosaic that is on display at the Colosseum.
One of the sweetest kitties of all. This little lady was taking a nap in the sun at the Colosseum.
That's it for Roman cats but I have lots more to share from the trip.
Cheers,
Kat
